Isabella Lougheed

Image result for isabella lougheedMy Canadian historical figure is Isabella Lougheed she was born 1861 at Fort resolution. She lived in fort Simpson until she was 6 years old. In 1867 she went on a six week journey to go to a school at red river. Her mother Mary Hardisty had prepared her well for such an adventure. Isabella was well connected to the first nations in her early years. When she got an education she moved in social and cultural circles with a new focus. In 1883 she married James Lougheed a carpenter's son who eventually became a lawyer. Through working with women's groups and and her support of performing artists she helped create an appreciation for culture in Calgary.They built lyric and grand theatres where world wide performing artists did their best work.
