Donovan Bailey

   Donovan Bailey was born on the notorious day of December 16 1967 not very notorious to some people but it was the birth to one of Canada’s most iconic figures in sports when he set the 100m world record in Atlanta in 1996 with a time of 9.84 seconds(wow I know right, fast) making him the world's fastest man. Donovan was a teenager (13 years old) when he immigrated to Canada in 1981. Donovan played basketball before his graduation at Queen Elizabeth Park High School in Oakville Ontario and Was a gifted athlete but was unable to devote his full energy to sprinting. His real interest was in clothing and he established a successful clothing business before he began running track in earnest in 1990. He was however good enough to make the national sprint team and was an alternate on the 1993 sprint squad.

   Donovan moved to Louisiana to train seriously. His times improved dramatically and in 1995 he staged several upset victories and posted a world best time for the season. At the Canadian championships that year he ran a blazing 9.91 seconds in the 100m final and established himself as a favourite for the world championships. Bailey dominated the 100m final at the world championships in Goteborg, Sweden running a 9.97 and claiming the gold medal.    

   All these accomplishments lead to Donovan’s successes and landed him a place in the sports Hall of fame {where I will be one day} and this is my blog on a star the man is Donovan Bailey!!!!
