ALICE MURDOCH ADAMS
Alice Murdoch Adams was born in Edinburgh , Scotland in 1908 . She was a pioneer in the Alberta dance community ! At the age of 3 she started dancing . While at her dance school in Scotland , she was constantly hit with a wood ruler by her dance teacher . In the first world war her family moved to Cranbrook , BC . She moved there with her grandmother because it was safer there . After the war her and her grandmother went back to Scotland where she continued to dance . In the second world war her whole family moved back to Canada , but instead of Cranbrook they moved to Calgary ! In Calgary Alice opened her own dance studio called the Alice Murdoch Dance School ! The school was the first dance school in Calgary ! The dance studio opened in 1927 . During the summers she would travel to Scotland for highland , England for ballroom , and Paris for ballet ! Later in her career she met Fred Astaire . But unfortunately she sustained a career ending injury . What happened you ask , well as she grew up she had a vertabrate slowly bending ,and one day she fell off a horse and that vertabrate snapped ! She was temporary paralyzed . She had to hand the company over to her sister Jean , who was 20 yrs younger . Sadly in 1997 she died due to old age . She was 89 . But her dance legacy still lives on she won the the Alberta Dance Award and received an award from the rotary club . The reason behind the rotary club is because , she choreographed the president’s for over 40 yrs . Alice was an amazing person . Something she would say to other people and future generations is don’t wait for someone to do something for you , if you want to make a change do it for yourself
