Marion Moodie

My Canadian Historical Figure Is Marion Moodie. She was born In Quebec City 1867, unfortunately she pasted away 1958. Marion Moodie was the first nurse to graduate In Alberta. Marion Moodie went to Calgary with her family In 1891. 7 years later she graduated from the Calgary hospital she was the first fully trained nurse to receive her diploma in the province of Alberta. For 5 years she engaged In a private nursing and hospital work In central and southern Alberta and Manitoba. During the war Miss Moodie found time, In her busy pioneer life, to make botanical collections of the flora of Alberta for the provincial government at Edmonton, as well as for such well-known american institution as the Smithsonian, the new York botanical, Harvard university, and the field museum, Chicago. An earlier book of poems appeared under the title of "Song of The West", and a fairy tale book. "The Legend Of Drays" In addition to which Moodie has been a frequent contributor to Canadian periodicals of articles of pioneer nursing. Children's stories and articles reflecting her interests In and love for the out-of-doors from "Song Of The West".
